Business Card Design Tips That Print Well

Simple business card design tips: what to include, readable font sizes, bleed and safe margins, high-resolution artwork and proofing before you print.

A business card is small, so every choice matters. These tips help your card look sharp and print cleanly.

Keep the essentials

Include your name, title, business name, phone, email and website. Leave out anything a customer will not use.

Make it readable

Keep body text around 8 points or larger and use strong contrast between text and background. Two typefaces are usually enough.

Respect bleed and safe areas

The standard US card is 3.5 x 2 in. If color runs to the edge, extend it past the trim line (bleed) and keep text well inside the edge so nothing is cut off.

Use print-ready artwork

Use a high-resolution logo (vector files such as PDF, AI, EPS or SVG work best). Images pulled from websites are often too low resolution for print.

Use the back

Front and back printing gives room for a map, services list or appointment line without crowding the front.

Proof carefully

Check every phone number, email and spelling before approving your proof.
